It's that time of year… What have you learnt about yourself this year? How will you use these insights in 2022? This year I learnt that:
There is no braveness without fear; there is no growth without courage
Your mind is capable of more than you realise; and sometimes you need to override its primeval protective instincts
Your body sometimes tells you what your mind is hiding from you
Slow thinking is underrated in this fast moving world
Even those who look like they belong don't always feel like they do
When you tap into your human side, you tap into nature, and you bring the whole system into your thinking - perspective matters
For me, this year has been a year of being brave, and of learning. I stepped out of my comfort zone, left permanent employment, and fully dedicated myself to setting up my own coaching practice, risking a stable and lucrative career as a management consultant. The decision was scary, it was hard, but once made was never regretted. As a result of pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I have experienced both personal and professional growth. When making the decision, it felt like an ending, but was it? I wouldn't be the coach I am today without all those experiences of managing change in organisations. Even my travels around the world meeting and working with different cultures, my transitions to parenthood and from moving in and out of the corporate world, are relevant to the coach I am today. It wasn't an ending, it was a natural continuation.
I'm so excited about 2022, and about bringing these and other insights into my coaching and to the benefit of my clients. I'm looking forward to being a bias detector, and getting better every day at noticing what my clients are not consciously noticing, helping them to raise their awareness, to change their perspectives, to think slower and deeper and make better decisions, to be braver, and to gain clarity and insights for growth.
What are your learnings from 2021, and how will you use these to grow in 2022? Would you benefit from a partner to support your thinking and keep you accountable? Don’t hesitate to reach out to me for a conversation.
Wishing you all a 2022 full of insights, growth, and good health!
